Kirkdale Garden Cottage, complete with its own two acre private original walled garden offers a complete rural idyll away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life.

The house is a traditional Galloway cottage which nestles magically alongside the walled garden and has been brand newly refurbished. The sitting-room and master bedroom walls are incorporated within the wall of the garden itself.

The cottage is situated on Kirkdale Estate a private coastal Estate offering walks, beaches, forests, hills and delightful towns all within incredibly easy access. The Estate has been home to the Hannay family for over 500 years.

The walled garden is entirely yours to enjoy. Fruit trees, apple, pear, plums, kiwi adorn the walls. The south facing french doors from the cottage lead straight out from the sitting-room into the walled garden. The North Wall, which is south facing and where the cottage is situated, averages nine hours of sunshine a day. Average temperatures on the south facing wall are 22 degrees, such a wonderful temperature to enjoy all summer round thanks to the shelter from the four amazing original walls.

There are three bedrooms, sleeping six, with black-out lined curtains to ensure the best possible night’s sleep. The master bedroom has a king size bed and views over the garden. There is a further twin room and the third bedroom also has two full size single beds, one the fun of a mid-sleeper and an additional single bed. The cosy and characterful sitting-room with windows to the garden has a wood-burning stove and french doors providing direct access to the wonderful space of the private walled garden. The dining/kitchen is very spacious with dining table and chairs and window seat alongside a woodburning stove. There is an additional utility room off the kitchen with washing machine, three drawer freezer and second sink.

Free logs and wi-fi are provided. We are family friendly and pet friendly. Kirkdale Estate has a tennis court too.

The walled garden is the original garden to Kirkdale House, a Robert Adam house said to have one of the last remaining unaltered Adam exteriors in Scotland. Independent authors have described Kirkdale as the best situated in the whole of Scotland. We are a coastal estate on the Solway Firth with far reaching views out to sea across to the Isle of Man in the distance.

There are wonderful walks from the doorstep of the cottage. Walk up to the historic Cairn Holy, recently picked by Visit Scotland as a must see attraction and enjoy breathtaking views over the Solway Firth or head towards the coast and enjoy a peaceful walk along the shoreline.

Kirkdale Estate is perfectly situated to access all the very best that Galloway has to offer. We are directly on the coast giving access to beaches and we are also situated near the very popular towns of Castle Douglas (Food Town), Kirkcudbright (Artist’s Town) and Wigtown (Book Town) which are all within twenty or so minutes drive.

Galloway Forest Park offering walks, mountain biking (from beginner to expert) and bird watching opportunities. Star gazing is also on our doorstep, being within 10 minutes of the cottage. There are rivers and seas for fishing and links and inland golf courses.

There are numerous sports and activity centres very near by. The Seven Stanes at Kirroughtree, within ten minutes of the cottage, is one of the UK and Europe’s top mountain biking areas. There is golf, fishing, mountain biking, horse-riding, tennis all on our doorstep. Galloway Activity Centre with water sports, sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding is around 30/40 minutes away, as is the Galloway Water ski centre.

We are only five minutes from Laggan Outdoor offering a wealth of outdoor activities to include UK’s longest zipwire, archery, shooting, grass sledging, amongst others and with a café with wonderful sea views on site. The new GGs Yard rural wedding and events venue is also situated at the same site as Laggan.

For families we are also within ten minutes of both the extremely popular Cream o Galloway and the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory.

There is wildlife in abundance too on the Estate – come and look for red squirrels, deer, otters, stoats, peregrine falcons and kites alongside many others.
